GARDEN HOUSE
WHY
The well-positioned existing home required expansion to capture additional space and improve connection with the garden. At the same time, the character of the existing home was to be retained and enhanced.
HOW
The proposed extension seeks to create minimal impact to the existing home. A new lightweight clad pavilion housing an additional living room and main bedroom lightly links with the existing structure to frame a new Japanese-inspired garden. Long lines of sight are created through the floor plan, to the outdoors beyond. Timber elements are a theme throughout, appearing at eaves, pergola, floors, seating and joinery, which tie together the progression from indoor to outdoor.
