GUNDAROO HOUSE

WHY

An empty 10 hectare rural block in Gundaroo was purchased to accommodate a new off-grid home. The block slopes up to the east, with views available to the north and west. The new home was to be a robust, yet comfortable family home, with aspiration for the design to be reminiscent of the historic buildings in the Gundaroo township. The design was to also incorporate a shed for farming needs, and other off-grid elements such as water storage, waste treatment, and solar panels.

HOW

Anchoring off the hill, the new home is situated to align with the slope, offering views out to the north-west. The house faces the long entry road, providing an enticing glimpse of the home upon approach. A long open shed is incorporated into the footprint, creating an amenable service area at the rear while being shielded from the front. Red brick grounds the building, with corrugated metal walls and roof enclosing the classic shed-like form. Internally, dramatic raked ceilings feature throughout.
